Bye Bye Baby Weight

Well, I suppose it's that time of year in which many people make their New Year's resolutions. I had originally thought that I would skip the whole resolution thing this year - too hard to keep and all. But then a very wise pastor mentioned a quote that I have heard from him several times: "If you aim at nothing, you will surely hit it every time."

And so I wrote down a list of goals for myself this year - specific goals for The Framed Frog and for myself as a wife and mother. I won't bore you with the whole list here.

However, I did make one goal that I know thousands of others make every year - to get healthier and lose weight. I am going to need all the help I can get - so I am mentioning it here to help keep myself accountable. :)

I have always been one of those people that didn't worry much about what I ate in the past. I was always very active; a cheeseburger here or a bowl of ice cream there never really affected my weight. It was bound to catch up with me eventually. Apparently having three babies in three years, eating junk food, and generally being lazy is the perfect equation for gaining weight. Who knew?! haha

I started putting on a few pounds earlier in 2009. I chalked those up to stress and the long hours of sitting and painting. Gradually the pounds added on throughout the year, but I didn't really notice in all my busyness. In December, though, when a former Sunday School student asked me if I was pregnant again, I definitely took notice. I weighed myself at home and was shocked to discover that I had gained ten pounds in the past six weeks!

It's time to stop avoiding it. It's time to face this beast head-on and stop the weight gain.

Here's my plan:

1) Get rid of the temptations. Currently there is a container of to-die-for Udderly Chocolate ice cream in the freezer and piles of Christmas candy on the table. No more!

2) Work out regularly again. With three little ones, there is little hope of getting to the gym, but I got the "Your Shape" for the Wii which is already kicking me hard.

3) Stop eating all the convenience foods that got me in this position in the first place.

4) Drink more water.

5) Once a week, post my current weight and progress (or lack thereof) on my blog.

So (deep breath here) here is my starting weight: 171.8 pounds.

Eek. My goal is to lose 25 pounds by June. I need your encouragement folks! Because that Reese's peanut butter cup is looking mighty good right about now...

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! We have gloriously rung in 2010 with friends, food, and much fun! We invited two dear friends over and (after a hasty cleaning spree) broke out the mini tacos, taquitos, empanadas, and pizza.

The little monsters were beyond thrilled to stay up past their bedtime and indulge in Pringles, pepperoni pizza, and root beer. We all watched a movie over dinner and then played some GiraffeaLaff Limbo with the kiddies. The guys followed up with a wild pillow fight and sent them giggling off to bed.

After tucking the sugared-up little ones in bed, we opened our new Super Mario Bros game for the Wii and had a blast playing through the levels together. Well, mostly we depended on the Nerd's mad gaming skills to get us through each obstacle while the rest of us did our very best to jump on each other's heads and cause mass confusion.

At 12:00 midnight, we shouted Happy New Year! rather giddily(well, all except the one who had already fallen asleep on the floor and was snoring heavily). I finally called it a night around 3:00 am.

And, I am pleased to say, the kiddies were kind and let us sleep in a little. New Year's Day was full of more movie-watching, game-playing, general laziness, and a fun trip to IKEA to spend some Christmas money. Dinner involved Swedish meatballs and mac'n'cheese and free meals for the kids!

A Happy New Year indeed!

Farewell 2009

It is hard to believe that I am looking at the last day on the 2009 calendar already. It seems as if this year has flown by even faster than previous years!

Miss Drama Queen was born in 2006, the Beast was born in 2007, and the Spud was born in 2008. I guess one thing that makes 2009 a banner year for us is that I have not been pregnant or given birth this year! :) I love love love my kiddies, but it was nice to have a break this year.

Apparently however, I am a glutton for punishment, and didn't allow myself much of a break before I "gave birth" again, this time to The Framed Frog. My husband had been encouraging me for some time to take this step, and on February 6, 2009, I opened The Framed Frog on Etsy.com. It took me nearly a month and a half to get my first sale. Then the sales started trickling in here and there. Even though I had grandiose plans to build my new business, I still thought of it as more of a hobby than a business. In September, sales really started to pick up, and by November, I was suddenly overwhelmed by the Christmas rush. Over a third of the 80 sales I have made online this year came in November and December. God has blessed my little business so much - now I just have to figure out how to balance it all with taking care of my kiddies, taking care of my man, and taking care of my home. Yeah. That's definitely still a work in progress!

2009 was also the year that I was able to faithfully blog the entire year. :) Although I primarily started my blog back up to chronicle all the events of our chaotic life for the kiddies (I mean, the Spud's baby book is still in the shrink wrap!), I appreciate all the support from my followers and commenters! Your encouragement helped make The Framed Frog a possibility, and I love having all these new cyber-friends! Sara, thanks especially for all your faithful commenting! It feels like we have know each other a long time - I hope that someday, before our kiddies get too old, we can get the whole crazy group together for a playdate. We have family in Ohio, so it could happen, right?

Despite some tough trials this year, our family has been immeasurably blessed by God. I look forward to 2010's adventures, although I'm not sure I'm ready to be the mom of a 4-year-old (in two weeks!).

And in case this post isn't long enough for you already, here are my top five favorite posts of the year:
